Anchoring Ourselves to the Rock that Is Higher than Us

The faithful from every nation, people group, and language who desire a relationship with God and eternity in heaven with Him, anchor themselves in Jesus, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit. The unfaithful, whether they know it or not, do not live for God or heaven. Hell may be desired by some living outside of God, but others may be surprised as Lazarus was (Luke 16:19–31). For those who detest God and desire to be away from Him, hell will give them what they want.

In our degenerate world it is difficult to go against family and friends to stand with God and the Bible. But regenerate people have no other choice. God, their first defense, is their source of strength and hope. He provides the wisdom and discernment for them to stand in faith with Him.

No Christian desires to go to hell and they do not desire for anyone else to go there either. They know that God will not force anyone to follow Jesus. One of the biggest dilemmas for Christians is to live uncompromisingly for Christ while they are true to the non-Christians whom they love so dearly. This is no easy task and one which requires courage of conviction.

Being anchored in the will of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is essential to Christian life. Our ever-present God fortifies His children so that they can fight wickedness and be His hands and feet on earth. As days get increasingly evil, God’s light and strength will shine brighter and be stronger. This is not evident to those whose ears do not hear and eyes do not see. Emotionalism is not important to God. God wants us to have an authentic and deep spiritual connection with Him.

Christians obey God as they discern what is of Him from what is evil. They know that at times God leads them to be silent, while at other times He provides the words to say and the direction to do things His way. Guided by the Holy Spirit, they anticipate heaven, a miraculous haven free from the storms and evil of life.

Communicating with God becomes easier for His children as they become familiar with God’s voice, recognize His ways, and discern what is of Him compared to what is of the world. It is only through regular spirit-filled communication with God that Christians can withstand the evil that is all around them. The devil will weary but not defeat those grounded in God and the Bible.

Like the people of the old covenant (e.g., Abraham, Ruth, David, Esther), new covenant people must be in constant communication—prayer—with God to be faithful to Him. Christian parents and grandparents understand how prayers are vital to salvation, sanctification, and sensitivity to God and all people. They are metaphorically on their knees 24/7, seven days a week.

In much of the world, cell phones are the chief means of communication. They are often sought after and more popular than are healthy meals or wise friends. Technology is a worthwhile tool to help make life more manageable and efficient, but it is not a good means to undergird prayer.

Modern communication, rarely face to face and heart to heart, can help manipulate the truth for evil. Distinguishing fiction and lies from reality and truth is difficult and AI makes it easier for people to be confused and accept evil. Social media dominance and AI helps cover sin.

While some things heard and seen are impossible for hearers and seers to unsee or unhear, the devil uses multiple layers to deceive naive people into thinking that the sin that they saw and heard was true and good. Only God is good. Those who seek Him know not to be of the world.

Systems that once stood for what is right and true, and which protected the innocent, now stand for everything (which is nothing) and protect abusers. Confusion reigns supreme as people from both ends of the liberal-conservative spectrum battle each other as they disregard God’s ways.

Christian innocence and wisdom are rare when children are groomed throughout their daily lives to be precocious and enticing to wandering eyes. This modern hallmark of industrialized and civilized cultures is anti-God. Once enticed and drawn into evil, some victims whom the world failed, will go on to lure friends and others who were also taught to be attractive and sexualized.

Where I live is often viewed as years behind other places. Eventually though everything arrives here often with more intensity and fewer safeguards. Discovered and founded five centuries ago by Christians, my province is no longer Christian. As Africans worldwide work diligently against biblical erosion, Christian immigrants here from all over the globe help keep church doors open.

People who believe that Christians are ignorant and weak are of the world and they stand for that which will not survive. The Bible tells us that everything that is of the world will die. Christians know that the truth is of God and they rest secure in Him and His ways. Being anchored in God’s almighty love, which will never let them down or let them go, places them in the Lamb’s Book of Life with the promise of a place in heaven that is purposefully prepared for them.

Hear our cries, O God, please listen to our prayers. From the ends of the earth, we call to you especially when our hearts are faint. Lead us to the rock that is higher than us. You are our refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let us take refuge in You, under the shelter of Your wings! O God, You hear our vows; You have given us the heritage of those who fear your name. We ever sing praises to Your name serving you day after day. Amen. (Psalm 61)
